The Government of the Republic of Zambia has officially launched the much anticipated construction of 10.1 kilometers of township roads in Solwezi, marking a significant milestone in infrastructure development for the district.
The project, funded by the Central Government, will be executed by JD Con Zambia Limited.
North Western Province Minister, Hon. Robert Lihefu, flagged off the commencement of the project, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to enhancing the road network across the country. He stressed the urgent need for improved township roads in Solwezi, which are crucial for local economic growth and connectivity.
Hon. Lihefu also emphasized the importance of community involvement in the project, urging the contractor to create job opportunities for local residents.
Speaking at the same event, Solwezi Mayor, Mr. Remmy Kalepa, paid glowing tribute to President Hakainde Hichilema for fulfilling his promise to the people of Solwezi. He highlighted the Government’s goodwill and dedication to uplifting the district through infrastructure development.
Mr. Kalepa further encouraged JD Con Zambia Limited, the main contractor, to subcontract Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the district to handle minor works, ensuring local contractors also benefit from the project.
Meanwhile, Solwezi Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Stafford Mulusa, echoed the Government’s commitment to delivering quality services, with particular focus on road infrastructure for Solwezi district.
JD Con Zambia Limited Group Chairman, Mr. Joseph Kabuswe, assured the public of high-quality work, adding that the project will be handled by a team of trained engineers to meet the required standards.
The road network earmarked for construction includes:
●Zambia-Kimasala road to Kyawama Roundabout
●Messenger – Kazomba to T5
●Stadium – Faith Academy road to T5 at Mitec
Also present at the event were: Solwezi Deputy Mayor Adrian Nkolomba, Councilors, the Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr Luckson Mulumbi, Town Clerk Mr Stanley Mbewe, District Commissioner Mr Tradeson Mulofwa, and the UPND party officials, among other esteemed stakeholders.
