Solwezi Municipal Council has made progress in upgrading the Chisomo-Kimasala road, which is the first stretch to be worked on under the Solwezi Municipal Council-Kansanshi Mining Plc partnership for the year 2024.
The works being done are part of the proposed upgrading of 30.6Km township roads to be implemented over a 5 year period under the proposed extended Memorandum of Understanding.
Kansanshi Mining PLC has also been requested to add street furniture such as street lighting along Chisomo road to the scope of works. Once finalised, the MoU will allow for works to start early every year and will enable us to carry out extra works.
Kansanshi Mining PLC has also committed to upgrading an additional stretch of about 600m which will link Chisomo road to the boom gate carpark through Mukuba road.
Pictures below highlight the current stage reached in the construction of the road on both sides:
1. Surfacing
2. Base course construction
3. Cement stabilisation of the base
