In a heartwarming gesture on Christmas Day, His Worship the Mayor Mr Remmy Kalepa, presented special baby hampers to 15 mothers across the district, celebrating the birth of their children on this festive day.
The Mayor led the symbolic presentations, visiting multiple health facilities to personally congratulate the families. As of 13:00 hours today, a total of fifteen (15) babies had been welcomed within Solwezi District.
Solwezi General Hospital recorded a total of eight births, comprising seven females and one male. Kakombe Health Centre recorded one male birth. At Solwezi Urban Clinic, three births were recorded, consisting of two females and one male. Kazomba Health Centre recorded one female birth, while Zambia Health Centre recorded two female births.
During the visits, the Mayor highlighted that the gesture of welcome is part of the Council’s commitment to maternal and child welfare, in direct support of the Presidential Directive for all health facilities to have a maternity wing.
The Mayor further encouraged the parents to nurture and care for their newborns, emphasizing that the children represent the future of Solwezi.
The baby hampers contained essential childcare items, providing practical support to the mothers as they begin their journey of parenthood.
