Solwezi district on 21st November, 2025 kick started its Cholera Preparedness Campaign Meetings, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen the districtβs readiness and response mechanisms aimed at preventing any possible outbreak of cholera.
The meeting served as an important platform for stakeholders to share ideas, discuss strategies and consolidate efforts on how the district can effectively respond should any case of cholera be recorded. The meeting was chaired by Solwezi District Commissioner, Mr Tradeson Mulofwa represented by the District Administrative Officer Mr. Anthony Fulwe, and Solwezi Municipal Council Toen Clerk Mr Stanley Mbewe, represented by Director of Public Health, Mr. Castro Chisanga.
In attendance were representatives from various critical institutions, including: Kansanshi Mining Plc), Solwezi District Health Office (DHO), Zambia Army, Zambia National Service (ZNS), Zambia Police Service, Zambia Airports Corporation Limited, Zambeef, Pick n Pay, Solwezi Municipal Council and other key stakeholders.
During his remarks, Mr. Castro Chisanga emphasized the importance of teamwork and unwavering commitment from all institutions involved. He noted that a coordinated multisectoral approach is essential in preventing cholera, especially during the rainy season when risks are heightened.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their dedication to supporting government efforts through community sensitization, surveillance, water quality monitoring, sanitation improvements and rapid response systems to ensure that Solwezi remains cholera free.
We call on members of the public to remain vigilant, practice proper hygiene, ensure safe water consumption and support all preventive measures.
