The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) on Friday, 22nd August 2025, concluded the orientation of election officers in North Western Province, with the final session dedicated to Assistant Registration Officers-Supervisors.
The training was part of the Commissionβs preparations for the forthcoming mass voter registration exercise.
The orientation programme, which began on 18th August 2025, covered provincial and district registration officers, finance officers, cashiers, audit staff, procurement and stores officers, human resource personnel, and District Voter Education Committee (DVEC) Coordinators. Each category was taken through its critical role in ensuring that the registration exercise is conducted efficiently and credibly.
The ECZ has adopted a phased approach, orienting officers in five provinces last week and extending the exercise to the remaining five provinces this week.
On 21st and 22nd August, special focus was placed on Assistant Registration Officers-Supervisors. The Commission emphasized that these officers will form the backbone of the registration process in the field. They will be responsible for supervising registration officers, monitoring operations, and ensuring that all eligible voters are reached. The Supervisors were tasked to prepare deployment plans that are both inclusive and realistic, covering every corner of their respective districts.
Commissioner Major General Vincent Mukanda (Rtd), who officiated at the opening and opening sessions, stressed the importance of professionalism and accountability among all officers.
He also highlighted the role of the media as a critical stakeholder in the electoral process describing them as the Commissionβs βeyes and earsβ in the field. He expressed confidence that they would report truthfully and help safeguard the credibility of the voter registration process.
He commended journalists for their coverage of the orientation programme, noting that the media serves as a bridge between the Commission and the public by delivering accurate information and countering misinformation. He further assured that the ECZ would continue to involve the media in all its activities.
With the conclusion of the initial phase of the orientation programme, the Commission reaffirmed its readiness to conduct an inclusive and credible mass voter registration exercise.
