The African Day of Decentralisation and Local Development is being marked today across African Union member states under the theme βBuilding Resilient Communities through Inclusive Decentralisation and Equitable Development.β
The occasion serves as a reminder that decentralisation helps place decision-making in the hands of local communities, encourages everyone to have a voice, and works towards development that is fair and shared by all.
In line with this yearβs theme, Solwezi Municipal Council featured a special radio program focusing on settlement upgrading; a key part of building resilient communities.
On the panel were our Assistant Settlement Officers, Mr. Chinyama Chavula and Mr. Adrian Chibumbu.
The discussion emphasised that settlement upgrading is a shared responsibility. By obtaining the right documentation, paying ground rates and actively participating in community planning, residents can help improve infrastructure, access to services and overall living conditions.
Together, through inclusive decentralisation, we can create a Solwezi where development is sustainable and benefits every resident.
