Solwezi Municipal Council today received a generous donation of ten waste bins from Mr. Kawina Poho, a youth born and bred in Solwezi District. Mr. Poho, a public health practitioner, made this contribution as a way of giving back to his community.
This donation aligns with the Council’s commitment to strengthen waste management and sanitation in the district.
With Solwezi currently generating approximately 1,200 tonnes of waste every month, interventions such as these are timely and greatly appreciated.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held at Solwezi Civic Centre, Town Clerk Mr. Stanley Mbewe praised Mr. Poho for his initiative. He described the donation as an important gesture that comes at a time when the district is grappling with increasing volumes of waste due to population and economic growth.
Mr Mbewe said the bins will be placed along Independence Avenue and other key township roads to support better waste disposal and contribute to keeping Solwezi clean.
The Town Clerk, who was joined by Director of Public Health Mr. Castro Chisanga, also used the occasion to call on other residents, especially young people, to emulate Mr. Poho’s example and support the Council in improving public health and environmental management.
Mr. Poho, in his remarks, encouraged the public to join hands with the Council in addressing waste management challenges. His donation reflects not just professional commitment, but also a deep sense of responsibility to his hometown.
The Council expresses its sincere gratitude to Mr. Kawina Poho and looks forward to continued collaboration with individuals and organizations committed to the wellbeing of Solwezi.
