On 2nd June, 2025, the Council hosted a delegation from the Zambia Devolution Support Program (ZDSP) and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
The purpose of the visit is to engage with the Council on how best staff can be oriented to effectively access and manage Grants under the Zambia Devolution Support Program. The delegation highlighted the availability of capital grants aimed at strengthening the capacity of local authorities across the country.
In 2023, the program focused solely on Town Councils, with each qualifying Council receiving up to USD 2.6 million to implement locally driven projects. This year, the program has expanded, with USD 21 million available for qualifying Councils. The final selection will be based on a set of performance and eligibility parameters, with the World Bank set to carry out the final assessments.
We are optimistic that Solwezi will meet the requirements and benefit from this round of funding, and we welcome the opportunity to continue working closely with the Ministry and ZDSP to build capacity within our Council.
The delegation was warmly received by Deputy Mayor Councillor Adrian Nkolomba, Councillors for Kifubwa and Sandangombe wards, the Provincialocal Government Officer Mr Adrian Zulu and Town Clerk Mr Stanley Mbewe.
